Abstract:
Throughout Summer Scholars, students of the Siena Beverage Institute continued to progress on projects that began during the school year and started new ones as well. One component that is crucial to the Beverage Institute is beekeeping, which was continued throughout the summer by Simon Meisel, Colin Caulfield, Isabella McClave, Jeremy Bult, and Dr. Krysta Dennis. Additionally, we worked with our partners Historic Cherry Hill and the Cheese Traveller. Jeremy and Isabella worked to create a new logo for the Cheese Traveller and a style guide. On June 21, a historic tasting was held at Historic Cherry Hill titled “A Taste of 1760.” We studied the cookbook of Maria Schuyler Sanders Van Rensselaer, a former Cherry Hill resident, and selected recipes for foods and beverages that we wished to produce and include at the tasting. The final important element of our Summer Scholars experience was our tastings, which were conducted each week on various categories of beverages. Professors were invited to attend and each student presented some of the drinks being discussed, which fostered our research skills.
